Two additional defendants have reached a tentative agreement with victims of the Station nightclub fire to pay $5 million to settle lawsuits against them.
Providence lawyer Mark Mandell, who represents more than 100 victims of the 2003 fire, announced yesterday during a federal court hearing that Polar Industries and Home Depot U.S.A. have together offered $5 million to those who lost loved ones or who suffered injuries in the deadly 2003 fire.
(The fire killed 100 people and injured more than 200 others. It started when a rock band, GREAT WHITE, set off pyrotechnics inside the wood-frame West Warwick club. Sparks from the fireworks ignited highly flammable polyurethane foam that had been installed on the walls and ceiling of the club as soundproofing. The blaze engulfed the building within three minutes.)
Along with $1 million that the court registry is holding from Great White — which would be added to the pool of settlement money if the victims agree to drop their claims against the band members — the total amount that could be awarded to the victims at this point has risen to $19.5 million.
