BW&BK; scribe Carl Begai recently caught up with ANNIHILATOR guitarist/founder Jeff Waters to discuss the North American release of the band's Metal album, which officially hit stores on January 15th, nine months after its release in Europe and Japan. The following is an excerpt from the story.

With Metal out in North America now, Waters hopes to finally hit the road at home for an extended period of time. Unlike 10 or even five years ago it’s no longer a mere pipedream, as the North American metal scene is comparable to Europe when it comes to demand and tour traffic. When it happens, Waters will finally be able to put to rest the rumours that he hates touring at home.

“Yeah, before the internet really kicked in that’s what everybody believed,” says Waters. “But now people have realized they can search for Annihilator on the ‘net and find interviews with this Waters guy explaining that he stopped touring North America because the scene died out in the ‘90s and he was a single parent who wasn’t able to tour all year. I had to choose between becoming a full time dad or going overseas and doing my job, make some money and keep my music going. It’s tough finding a tour for Canada and the US, but (new label) SPV have been really cool and aren’t just doing the ‘Yeah, yeah, we’ll support your touring…’ They were nice enough to put that in our contract. Now it’s just a matter of me finding the right tour. I was hoping to get on the Gigantour but I contacted Dave (Mustaine) too late on that one…”

Watch for the full story in BW&BK; #109. Portions of the interview that will not appear in the issue will be available online soon.
