hot flashes news

Jeffrey Pearlin from the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology has sent BW&BK; the following press release regarding his

Bang Your Head! Heavy Metal 101 course being held next Wednesday January 30, 2008

from 6:00-8:00 PM at 14N-225 (MIT, Cambridge, MA):

"This is not metallurgy. Nor is it rocket science. This is HEAVY METAL!

This crash course in all things heavy metal will have you head banging, air guitaring, and devil horn raising in no time! Learn everything you ever wanted to know about Heavy Metal, including who’s awesome, who isn’t, why louder (not to mention faster and harder) DOES mean better, and so much more!

Featuring the most metal multimedia Powerpoint presentation ever (including photographs, video clips and of course, some SCREAMING HEAVY METAL sound samples), this one-time, two hour class covers the origins of heavy metal (both sonic and socio-political influences) through it's maturation and metamorphosis into the various prevailing sub-genres. Starting with the birth of heavy metal in the late sixties, through it’s meteoric rise to dominance in the mid-eighties, to it’s equally spectacular decline in the Nineties, culminating with its (not so) shocking resurgence at the turn of the millennium, this class leaves no leather-studded jacket unturned! Along the way, we will identify the many musical aspects that make heavy metal unique from other genres of “popular” music, while also paying particular attention to metal as a counter-cultural phenomenon. By the end of it all, you will know why JUDAS PRIEST rules, why METALLICA used to, why ballads never did, and why, through it all, Lemmy IS God.

So, if you think that POISON is heavy metal, that umlauts have no place in the English language, and you can't tell the difference between BLACK SABBATH and BON JOVI (hell, if you think Bon Jovi is cool, for that matter), then you can't afford to miss this class! This is guaranteed to be the most BRUTAL class ever offered at MIT!
