Daniel Rodgers, a member of popular city bands COCKTAIL PARTY EFFECT and RAVENOUS, made it through to the last 22 of a radio competition in which six New Zealand guitarists will be selected to open for OZZY OSBOURNE at his gig in Wellington at Easter.

Osbourne, who fronted BLACK SABBATH, went from being best known for biting off a bat's head to a reality television superstar.

On Thursday night in Wellington Rodgers won through to the final six and will play two five-minute sets on stage before 30,000 to 40,000 people at Westpac Stadium.

"I'm just so happy, it's ridiculous."

The Rock2Wgtn gig on March 22 also features glam rockers KISS.

Rodgers, who graduated from the Southern Institute of Technology last year with a Bachelor of Audio Production, made the final 22 by submitting three recordings of his own songs. Being comfortable on stage probably got him through against competition that he felt was "out of his league," he said.

He was a big fan of Osbourne's guitarist Zakk Wylde, and doubted he would meet Osbourne. However he hoped to bump into one of the big names while he was up there.
