February 26, 2008, 16 years ago
As previously reported, Grind Percussion is presenting Blast Off - the first drumming competition of it's kind. Blast Off is a drum competition for metal drummers, judged by metal drummers. The event will now take place on March 29th 2008 at 10:00 AM at Quixote's True Blue Cafe in Denver, CO.
According to organizers, "any metal drummer that can get to Denver for the event can enter. Depending on your level of experience, you will be placed in one of 3 possible divisions: 1. Entry Level - someone who is not in or may be in a local band, but has never shared a stage with a National act. 2. Mid Level - any player who has played in a band that opened for a National act. 3. Top Level - any player who has been in a National or International act.
Each player will be given a total of 5 minutes and there will be no triggers allowed. Your preparation and playing time is as you see fit, within the time limit. You can play an original song, solo or cover a song. The player will have the open option to wear n ipod or other earphone device. You may bring your own bass pedals, sticks and seat.
The judging will be handled by John Merryman of CEPHALIC CARNAGE (who will also be doing a short introductory drum clinic), Eric Park (DEVOURMENT / HYPERION), Jason Parrott (SKINNED) Duane Timlin who will also be performing a 30 minute drum clinic."
