According to the BBC, QUEEN guitarist Brian May has been installed as the new chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

A report reads as follows:

Brian May has had a 30 year career as a rock guitarist. Today he has taken over from Cherie Blair as Chancellor of Liverpool's JoHn Moores University. Brian was doing an Astronomy doctorate when Queen hit the big time and he completed it last year. He's passionate about live-long learning.

May: "It means a great honour and it means it's a job and I hope to do the job well and be a worthy successor to Cherie, who I know has done a fantasic job."

BBC: When you say it's a job, what do you mean by that?

May: "It's a job because really I'm here to do something for the University, to raise their profile and to help them in their quest for the very individual kind of education that they offer."

Doctor May was installed as Chancellor in a star-studded ceremony this lunch-time. Fellow astronomer Sir Patrick Moore was there, and yes, that's Pete Postlethwaite. The University are delighted with their new boss.

Prof Michael Brown: "Brian May has a great personal following, great celebrity worldwide for his music abilities. He also has this core of intellectual inquiry right through to his soul. That's a great message to take to students. You can actually have celebrity status and you have intellectual abilities as well."
