CAMP FREDDY - known for delivering the real spirit of rock n’ roll, not to mention the musical goods - take over the Sunset Strip in May when they headline a Thursday night residency at The Roxy in West Hollywood. The five shows - May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 - are presented by Indie 103.1 in association with Galpin Auto Sports and Velvet Angels.
Headed up by Billy Morrison (THE CULT, DOHENY), Dave Navarro (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, JANE’S ADDICTION, PANIC CHANNEL), Matt Sorum (GUNS N’ ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER), Donovan Leitch (son of legendary folk singer DONOVAN), and CHRIS CHANEY (JANE’S ADDICTION, ALANIS MORRISETTE), CAMP FREDDY will be joined by a different array of surprise guests every week as they dive into a treasure trove of classic songs encompassing glam, punk and hard rock. True to the CAMP FREDDY experience, you never know who or what will happen at their gigs. The residency will feature Mark McGrath (SUGAR RAY) every week, and some of the confirmed special guests include (in alphabetical order): Nuno Bettencourt (EXTREME), Brandon Boyd (INCUBUS), Warren DeMartini (RATT), Billy Duffy (The Cult), Steve Jones (SEX PISTOLS), Juliette Lewis, Moby, Steven Perkins (Jane’s Addiction), Brett Scallions (FUEL) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), with more TBA.
“We play some of the greatest rock and roll songs ever written, have a real laugh doing it, and invite artists that we respect to play them with us,” note Camp Freddy in their mission statement. “It’s the real spirit of rock and Roll.”In advance of the residency, The Roxy has sponsored a contest via its website (www.theroxyonsunset.com) to find the best local bands to open the shows. The top ten bands chosen by the venue will be voted on by fans in the coming weeks; each winning band will have the opportunity to open for Camp Freddy at one show in May. The top ten bands are: DRIVE A, RIOT: NOISE, KILLED BY DESIGN, LOVE SAID NO., ATTIC OF LOVE, MOVING PICTURE SHOW, LIFE AFTER MARY, MELOTIA and WICKHEAD.
