BW&BK Exclusive: DEATH ANGEL And DANKO JONES - The Raskulinecz Connection

In an exclusive interview with BW&BK; scribe Carl Begai on the last night of DEATH ANGEL's European tour, bassist Dennis Pepa revealed Toronto's own Danko Jones had a hand in producer Nick Raskulinecz (RUSH, FOO FIGHTERS, STONE SOUR) coming on board to work on the new Death Angel album, Killing Season. The following is an excerpt from the interview.
Pepa: "What happened was, Danko and Nick were working on his new album (Never Too Loud) over the course of something like a year, and when Danko finally got to Studio 606 to start recording there was a day where he walked in wearing a Death Angel hoodie. Nick had a guitar is his hand and started playing all these Death Angel riffs. Danko was like 'Dude, I love Death Angel! I know those guys! They're about to do a new album!' Nick was like, 'Really?', and that's where the connection was. I'd been talking to Danko about some management related stuff around that time, so, we got in touch with Nick, thank God, through Danko fucking Jones (laughs)."
Jones confirms it did indeed go down that way.
"He was like, ‘Oh, you like Death Angel…,' picks up the nearest guitar and started playing all these Ultra-Violence riffs (laughs). At that point I knew it was going to be an easy session because this guy was on the same wavelength as me. I don’t know a top rated guy who has produced Rush and Foo Fighters and can play every Ultra-Violence riff. I emailed Dennis and told him about it, and that kind of kickstarted how they got involved with Nick.
