IN FLAMES Singer Anders Friden - "We Don’t Play So Much Of The Older Material Anymore Because We Were Super Naïve When We Got Into This With The Recording Process"

IN FLAMES singer Anders Friden spoke to Torontosun.com about a number of topics including their new album, A Sense Of Purpose and the group’s current slot on Gigantour.
Friden says it’s an honour to play with MEGADETH but also says the tour’s lineup makes for an interesting and diverse audience. Just don’t expect a lot of songs from early In Flames releases like Lunar Strain or Whoracle when they play Arrow Hall (in Toronto tomorrow).
“When you play live, you really see the strength of a song,” he says. “We don’t play so much of the older material anymore because we were super naïve when we got into this with the recording process. We put layers and layers of guitar on the earlier albums and we were like, ‘Oh shit, we have to produce this live. Fuck we’re only five people and we have two guitar players.’”In Flames recently had a song ('Take This Life') end up on the Guitar Hero III video game, but Friden says he hasn’t mastered the song yet and doesn’t have the patience to either.
He also doesn’t have much patience when it comes to people trying to pigeonhole the band’s sound, occasionally dubbed “melodic death metal.”
“People try to say that In Flames is this or In Flames is that but we never claimed to own any genre or anything,” he says. “We just wanted to create a good heavy metal album and just go with it.”Read more here.
