PR Newswire has issued the following press release:

The legendary JIMI HENDRIX is the most visually iconic superstar in the rock 'n' roll firmament.

This May, Celebrity Vault gallery in Beverly Hills will mount the most extensive showing of Hendrix images - with work from the largest and most varied group of photographers - ever exhibited in Los Angeles.

Hendrix Revealed: A Life Through The Lens, with works spanning 1967-1970, opens with a VIP reception on Thursday, May 29th at 7 PM. The exhibition, acclaimed in London earlier this year, was produced and curated in association with U.K.-based Raj Prem Fine Art Photography.

The show marks the 40th anniversary of Hendrix's first US tour in 1968, also the year that Electric Ladyland, his third LP (and first #1) came out.

David Montgomery's image for the UK cover of that album, featuring an assemblage of naked ladies, was banned in the US, and would likely still raise censorship ire. A signed, limited edition of that infamous image is part of Hendrix Revealed, as is Montgomery's elegantly psychedelic inner sleeve portrait of Jimi.

One year prior to Electric Ladyland's release, Hendrix's era-defining performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival propelled him to instant global fame and remains one of rock's seminal moments. Taken at that concert, Ed Caraeff's indelible image of Hendrix setting fire to his Fender Stratocaster will also be featured at Celebrity Vault.

Collectively, Hendrix Revealed encompasses over 30 works by seventeen of the world's most celebrated rock photographers, many of whom had personal and professional access to Hendrix.

Among those attending the May 29th opening are Caraeff and Eddie Kramer, who was also Jimi's close friend and engineer/producer.

Black & white and color images will range from some of the most famously iconic shots ever taken of Hendrix to largely unseen rarities, and vary in print size from 16" x 20" to the 4' x 5' large format works (including ones by Gered Mankowitz) for which Celebrity Vault is known. Edition sizes run the gamut from open to "Editions of one," says Celebrity Vault co-founder/creative director Cole Sternberg, adding, "we are excited to offer collectors pieces that are uniquely hand-finished by the photographer."

Given the brevity of Hendrix's career, his profound influence on rock 'n' roll is all the more extraordinary. The passage of time has only grown his legend - he is #1 on Rolling Stone's recent list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time," and #6 on "The Immortals - The Greatest Artists Of All Time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and they wrote, "More than any other musician, Jimi Hendrix realized the fullest range of sound that could be obtained from an amplified instrument...the songs and sounds generated by Hendrix were original, otherworldly and virtually indescribable. In essence, Hendrix channeled the music of the cosmos, anchoring it to the earthy beat of rock and roll."

In addition to the singularity of his musical genius, Hendrix's utterly original sense of style made his visual imprint as dramatic as his sonic one. The photographs in Celebrity's Vault's unprecedented Southern California exhibition vividly reveal the power of his presence and his unfiltered authenticity, representing many essential Hendrix milestones as they document A Life Through The Lens.

Included are: shots with THE WHO, ERIC CLAPTON and others during Hendrix's initial London period; backstage with MICK JAGGER at Madison Square Garden; onstage at Royal Albert Hall, Paris Olympia, Monterey Pop and Fillmore East and much more.

Celebrity Vault is the pre-eminent purveyor of classic celebrity art. Co-founded by Klaus Moeller, Cole Sternberg and Sean Goodchild, their flagship Beverly Hills gallery (345 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 / 888.838.1881) opened in 2007. Additional locations in the United States and internationally are planned.
