Greek webzine RockPages.gr has issued an interview with former RAGE drummer Mike Terrana. In the following excerpt his states his opinion on the drummers in the current metal scene:

Q: I read at your website that you are disappointed that all new drummers sound the same.

A: "Actually… it’s not the new drummers’ fault… The problem is that technology that exists and the people using this technology, they all force the new drummers to sound the same.

For some reason, in Germany, they have this mode, where, if it’s not “perfect” they are not putting it in the record. You know, you can have (e.n. plays a rhythm, using his hands and legs) or you can have (e.n. plays the same rhythm, only more “relaxed”). Some guys in Germany say “That’s sloppy”. And I’m like “No, that’s groove”! They are messed up between sloppiness and feeling.

I’m an old-school drummer. I learned to tune my drums, to hit my drums, to create my own sound… Especially with the last record with Rage… I just couldn’t do it any more. I said “Go program a drum machine”… (e.n. I interrupt him, asking about Speak Of The Dead)… Speak Of The Dead is horrible! No feeling whatsoever! But… it’s perfect! Now, some kid that might think it’s perfect and starts to play like that… his feet are gonna blow up! Cuz it’s not possible! I couldn’t play that all! I couldn’t, it’s NOT possible! When you have the computer, you can make it so perfect that it’s ridiculous.

So, I don’t want any kids out there to think I’m some kind of superhuman! It’s fake! I don’t like being fake, that’s why I made my The Rhythm Beast DVD, that’s why I made “In Session”. That’s me playing my drums to the tape. There are no computers, no samples, there’s no bullshit! I said in the past that if people today can find a computer to wipe their ass, they’ll probably let the computer wipe their ass! I won’t!
