The legendary heavy metal group METALLICA rocked Sofia's Vasil Levski stadium for hours Friday night.
The musicians performed before a crowd of over 50,000 enthusiastic fans. The repertoire included both old hits and new songs.
With this splendid concert the godfathers of heavy metal fulfilled their 10-years old promise to return to Bulgaria, given in Plovdiv during the groups' first ever concert in the country.
Two American bands - THE SWORD and DOWN supported Metallica at the show and were well accepted by the public. The real party began however, when Metallica appeared on stage to award their fans with a splendid light show while their often controversial music, combining the classical heavy metal sound with a more contemporary one was once again a demonstration of musicianship of the highest class.
The group introduced their new bassist Robert Trujillo who replaced Jason Newsted in 2003.
Singer James Hetfield was again the biggest attraction for the audience since generations of Bulgarian heavy metal fans grew up with his familiar voice.
Metallica did not play any of the 10 songs from the Death Magnetic album that is to be released in September. The only thing the musicians have revealed so far was that the songs from the album are offering a great variety to the Metallica fans. The Death Magnetic album is on its way to turn into a presales' blockbuster in this branch.
