PAT TRAVERS - "Time Sure Flies When You Don’t Know What You’re Doing"
August 24, 2008, 16 years ago
Ryan Sparks at Classic Rock Revisited recently caught up with guitarist Pat Travers in the studio. The following is an excerpt from the interview:
Pat: "I’m actually in Canada recording at a studio near Peterborough. My record company has this studio which is like this cottage / studio compound on a lake and it’s very beautiful. We’ve been here for about a week and a half working on a brand new studio CD that will be available next year. In the meantime I’m promoting this upcoming release as well."
Q: What can you tell me about this new upcoming CD?
Pat: "We’re very excited about it. It’s the first time in a long time that I’ve had an opportunity to really kind of isolate myself, without any distractions and just get to work with the guys. It’s been difficult logistically to get together, we all live in Florida but we’re all in different places, and of course we’re working every other weekend. It’s not like you’re in a big hurry to get together and rehearse or anything after you’ve been holed up in hotels, airports and rental cars. 'Hey let’s rehearse tomorrow', yeah right [laughing]."
Q: What can fans expect from this new one?
Pat: "As I said, I’ve not had an opportunity to really concentrate on music for a CD exclusively in a long time, so what you’re going to get here is a whole bunch of ideas that have been stacked up in a holding pattern for the past twenty five years, which are finally getting a chance to come out in a cohesive way."
Q: This is the first time you’ve been back to record in the Toronto area since…
Pat: "Yeah since about 1977. We did Putting It Straight in Toronto in the summer of ’77. Time sure flies when you don’t know what you’re doing."
