Classic rock lovers will be pleased to learn of a new mobile phone service being launched by THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham.

Gorham was a member of the classic Thin Lizzy line-up which produced hits such as 'The Boys Are Back In Town' and 'Sarah'. The band was fronted by Phil Lynott, son-in-law of game show host Leslie Crowther, who died tragically young in 1986.

The group welded Irish folk with romantic laddish lyrics and harmonic electric guitar. Gorham was a key player and is now using his expertise to team up with PlayPhone to produce Rock Heroes.

The exclusive mobile service offers unique video and audio content of Scott playing classic Thin Lizzy riffs and solos specially recorded for PlayPhone. There is also interview footage of Scott answering all of the questions that he frequently gets asked about the legendary group.

Perhaps most appealingly, users will have access to a huge library of other classic rock and pop content including ringtones, games and graphics.

The guitar heroes of tomorrow will also be able to download guitar tab and chords. While guitar playing can often be a solitary pursuit though, there is no need to be alone with Rock Heroes as service users will be able to chat and upload pictures and videos via a mobile social network.

It was a Eureka-style moment on stage that led to Gorham thinking of the concept for Rock Heroes. He said: "When I first started playing, audiences would be holding up matches, then it was lighters and now every single person in the audience is holding up a phone — this made me think — there's got to be something in the mobile thing."

The service will be launched in the UK in October priced at £4.99 per week and, 22 years after Lynott's untimely death, will hopefully introduce a new generation of rock fans to Thin Lizzy classics such as 'Whiskey In The Jar'.
