ALICE COOPER Discusses HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES – “It’s Our Obligation To Do These Songs And To Honor These Guys”

North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio with Redbeard: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Albums visits with Alice Cooper about his new project paying tribute to lost legendary musical friends the Hollywood Vampires.

The legend of the original “Hollywood Vampires”, the loose collection of ribald rockers including John Lennon, Harry Nilsson, Keith Moon, and Alice Cooper, in the ‘70s rarely saw the light of day but raved nightly on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, providing notorious stories of rock debauchery as well as many charter members to the Betty Ford Clinic. The sole survivor left to resurrect the tale, Alice Cooper, has once again attracted a colorful core crew (sober this time) including guitar great Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Guns’n’Roses rhythm section Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, and the coolest rhythm guitarist with a Screen Actors Guild card, Johnny Depp.  Other guest Vampires include Joe Walsh, Slash, Robbie Krieger, AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson, Dave Grohl, Paul McCartney, and Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction.

The new band thrashes through some powerful iconic rock songs including Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love”, Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression”, The Who’s “My Generation”, John Lennon’s “Cold Turkey”, a Doors medley of “5 to 1/ Break On Through”, a mashup of Alice’s “School’s Out” and Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2” and many more.

Alice Cooper shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard the reason for the new supergroup.

“There’s a line in the song (‘Raise the Dead’),’They didn’t lose their soul, They just lost control…’ Here we are (new Hollywood Vampires) singing about all of our dead drunk alcoholic drug addict friends, and we were all at death’s door! Everyone in that room at one point was ready to die, and we all survived it.  These guys (original Vampires) didn’t make it. We did, so it’s our obligation to do these songs and to honor these guys.” - Alice Cooper
