BRET MICHAELS - "I Never Had Some Goal Of Getting To A Certain Bank Account Balance And Saying 'Okay, I Can Quit'"

Poison frontman and solo artist Bret Michaels is featured in a new in-depth interview with Cleveland.com. An excerpt from the discussion is available below.

Q: You've made glam metal, country and just about every kind of album but classical. Which one do you consider the "real'' Bret Michaels?

Michaels: "The real Bret is exactly all those things, I was raised on country music, fell in love with rock at an early age, and truly love all music, I love to create and I don't like being typecast. Music is truly an expression and whether you're a fan or an artist, you should feel free to like and create whatever you feel at any given minute. I've been very blessed to have my fans accept my exploration of different styles and genres."

Q: You've been making music for a long, long time. Any job gets old, even performing. How do you get up for each night?

Michaels: "It has never felt old to me once in my life, maybe because I don't see it as a job. I love the way performing makes me feel, I love the exchange of energy between me and the fans. To me, it still has the thrill of an extreme sport. I love it as much today as the day I started."

Q: "Girls On Bars'' has been out for about a year now. At this stage, you COULD become a legacy act, just relying on what you've done in the past. But you continue to make new music. What draws you to that?

Michaels: "I've always been a guy that loves to create, I never had some goal of getting to a certain bank account balance and saying "OK, I can quit." I make music because I love to make music. I don't think I could stop. It's my life, always had been."

Poison and Def Leppard will  join forces once again for a 2017 tour, according to Michaels. Speaking with The Salt Lake Tribune ahead of his performance at BearFest at Usana Amphitheatre in West Valley City, Utah, back in July, Michaels was asked about a potential Poison reunion.

He replied, "The honest answer to that is I absolutely hope so, and next year it'll be Poison and Def Leppard. The last time we were out was, I think, 2012, and we'll go out and bring it again, and it'll be insane."

On July 14th, Bret Michaels returned to primetime television on ABC’s Greatest Hits. Michaels performed as part of this very special six-week music event. He performed “Nothin’ But A Good Time” and “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”. Full videos of the performances can be found at abc.com/greatesthits.
