The following is an excerpt from an interview with CALLENISH CIRCLE drummer Gavin Harte, conducted by RockSomething.com:

RockSomething: Pitch.Black.Effects is a great album; what were your aims going into recording?

Gavin Harte: "Thanks! We’re really satisfied with the album ourselves. We wanted to create a Callenish Circle album with ingredients of the former album combined with some new elements that were more focussed on groove and catchy rhythms - and not to forget we planned to integrate some more electronic synth stuff into the songs. When we started composing the new album we agreed that we didn’t want to make an album like My Passion // Your Pain. We still think it’s a great album, but we’ve done that. We are a band that wants to develop and not repeat the same trick on each album. The new ideas we had were focussed on integrating some new elements without loosing the typically melodic Callenish Circle sound."

RockSomething: How has it been received so far by people?

Gavin Harte: "Well, it’s quite funny. It seems that this album is a 'love it or hate it’ album. A lot of people write that this is absolutely the best Callenish Circle album ever and that those new elements really will push the band to a higher level. On the other hand some people don’t like the modern and synth-stuff. I can imagine if you’re focused on hearing a typical melodic death/thrash album this might surprise you as our new album contains so much more than that. What I also hear is that people on first hearing don’t really like the album, but after hearing it a few times more they think the album is absolutely killer and top notch. I definitely can say that people’s reaction on this album is quite different than on our previous albums."
