On August 30th, Cheap Trick performed at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. At the end of "Dream Police", guitarist Rick Nielsen pulled Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian out of the audience to perform "Surrender" and "Auf Wiedersehen" with the band. Check out the fan-filmed video below.
Cheap Trick released their new album We’re All Alright! on June 16th via Big Machine Records. The album was produced by Julian Raymond. Its ten tracks (13 on the deluxe edition) hail from the group’s past and present, with older, previously unrecorded songs such as "Radio Lover," "Lolita" and "She's Alright" sitting alongside material written and recorded specifically for the album.
Guitarist Rick Nielsen recently spoke with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette about the album. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
Q: You went seven years without releasing an album and now you’ve done two albums back to back. How did that happen?
Rick: "Wrote a bunch of songs plus with having Bun E. out [of] there, it made it a more creative period."
Q: This album sounds like the harder, more metallic side of Cheap Trick. What made you go in that direction?
Rick: "Well, we make records song by song. It’s like, this batch of songs sounded like this."
Q: Anything different about the process compared to how you used to do it back in the day?
Rick: "Not really. We all record together. We do it live, then after that, we do overdubs, if we need to, to repair stuff. Usually when we do stuff we have to make sure we get the bass and drums down, and by doing it live, you’re actually playing the song. You’re not piecing together a song."
