CHEAP TRICK’s Robin Zander Talks About Not Playing At The Republican National Convention – “We Considered It, But We Said We’d Have To Make Guitars With Swastikas To Make It Make Sense”

Radio.com has published a new interview with Cheap Trick frontman Robin Zander. During the course the interview Zander talked about the band turned down an opportunity to play at Republican National Convention.

Radio.com: Have you gotten any blowback from the thing you said about not playing the Republican National Convention? 

Zander: “The thing is, we had an idea, I don’t know if you heard this or not…”

Radio.com: You turned down a lot of money! 

“It was $100,000! We considered it, but we said we’d have to make guitars with swastikas to make it make sense.”

In the videos below, Cheap Trick perform “Surrender” and “I Want You To Want Me” in front of a live audience in the SiriusXM Studios during a special Town Hall event. 

Cheap Trick was part of the 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction that also included Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, N.W.A., and Ahmet Ertegun honoree Bert Berns. The ceremony was held Friday, April 8th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.
