Guitarist/vocalist Chris Caffery (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Savatage) has checked in with the following update:
"After yesterday's video interview with Pete Pardo for Sea of Tranquility (view below) I decided to take a listen to the Doctor Butcher record again. This is the 20th anniversary of it's release. So crazy how time flies. I really hope the next 20 years do not go that quickly! This song 'Lost In The Dark' Jon Oliva and I wrote about a good friend who was sick with AIDS. Sad story that did not have a very happy ending. I love the guitar tones that I got in Morrissound Studios for this record. This solo I remember I had worked out note for note before I went in to record. I actually got all of the guitars done for this record in three days. I'm very proud of this album and happy that people consider it to be an important part of heavy metal history!"
In the clip below Caffery discusses the just completed TSO tour, his upcoming solo album, Savatage news, as well as a Forgotten Favorites segment as they both take a look back at the classic Doctor Butcher album from 1995. In addition, he looks at new releases from Blind Guardian, Led Zeppelin, UFO, Tarot, Oceanwake, and Judas Priest, plus Martin Popoff's new Whitesnake book.
Caffery is currently in the studio working on his next solo album. He recently offered a look inside the production:
"Back to guitar land today. Gonna rest the voice a lil. I also have a few more songs I need to get to Mr. Tichy for drums, 'Damned If You Do, Dead If You Don't' being one. Very metal. 'Too Soon To Be Too Late' is another. Plus another 3! I still have time before May but if I don't get these drums my masters will be too late! This record is a lot like Faces where it has a wide spectrum of songs. I have 13 with vocals, styles ranging from really heavy to an acoustic instrumental."
