According to New York Daily News, actor Harry Shearer is suing the Vivendi entertainment group and its StudioCanal division for a whopping $125 million, claiming the company committed fraud in an attempt to conceal revenues earned for the 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap.
Shearer - who co-created the fictional heavy metal group with Christopher Guest and Michael McKean - alleges Vivendi manipulated its accounting transgressions between itself and music companies in an effort to prevent the film's creators from pocketing all of the money they are owed.
"Vivendi has engaged and is continuing to engage in anti-competitive and unfair business practices and has abandoned its obligations to enforce intellectual property rights in 'This Is Spinal Tap,' unlawfully depriving Plaintiff of substantial revenues," Shearer claims in the lawsuit.
