DANKO JONES Highlights 11 New Rock Bands On Latest Episode Of Official Podcast

Toronto rocker Danko Jones has issued the following update on his official podcast, Episode #169 - The Rock N’ Roll Scene In 2018:

"This podcast episode features 11 new exciting RNR bands playing today. There needs to be a cohesive rock n’ roll scene and this episode is an attempt. Bands spotlighted - Lüt, Faz Waltz, Big Kizz, Gin Lady, Wyldlife, The Cry, Death By Unga Bunga, Miraculous Mule, Biblical, Imperial State Empire and The Night Flight Orchestra."

After a distinguished career as a charter member of the legendary Canadian prog-rock trio Rush, guitarist Alex Lifeson had a wide-open schedule when the band decided to hang up its amps, cymbals and elaborate lyricism in 2015.

The musician, 64, spoke to The Globe And Mail about his latest projects, musical and otherwise. An excerpt follows:

"It's been a little over two years since Rush last toured. We have no plans to tour or record any more. We're basically done. After 41 years, we felt it was enough. But I've actually been busier lately than I have been in a while. I'm writing a lot. I'm writing on four or five different little projects. I get these requests to do guitar work with other people. It's really a lot of fun for me. It's low pressure: I get to be as creative as I want to be and I can work a little outside of the box, which is really attractive to me."

Danko chimed in with his praise for Rush, a staple in his music collection:

First I find out Slayer are calling it quits and then today I read Rush are done too. Good for both those bands. They should be allowed to chill the fuck out. This album isn’t the best entry point for a curious listener but along with Signals and Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows was how I started listening to Rush. I thought this album sucked balls but recent listens has me reevaluating this and I have since flipped. It’s pretty damn good. Still, if you’re curious about Rush DON’T START WITH THIS ALBUM. You’ll only end up hating the band. Try Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves or Farewell To Kings instead. So long Rush. Let’s hope more iconic bands take a cue from Slayer and Rush and hang it up soon too.
