DARKSIDE Vocalist Launches WOLFHEART Featuring THE MALAVITA ANTISOCIAL CLUB; Debut Album Details Revealed

Darkside vocalist Wolf has checked in with the following update

"Recording some kind of a solo album has always been one of my dreams, for about 30 years now, I guess. Since my abilities in songwriting are limited to programming, I have decided to ask some musicians/friends of mine to lend me a hand with this one.

The main people within this project are Jaroslav Lukac, who already collabourated with me on the last Darkside album by delivering some phenomenal solos and whom I wanted to introduce also as a songwriter this time, as well as Alessandro Vagnoni, who will take care of drums as well as of the productional process. Jaro will write most of the songs whereas Peter Böhm, Darkside´s bass player, will record the low edge to all of the songs for this album.

The moniker for the 'band' is Wolfheart featuring The Malavita Antisocial Club. Why that, you may ask?

Moonspell are a great band and some true friends of mine since we toured together for the first time in 1998, me being a member of Darkside supporting the Portuguese wolves on their Sin/Pecado European tour together with Therion. My name got involved in various wordplays during that tour and since their breakthrough album was called Wolfheart, I now decided to adopt this nickname for myself, also as my rendition and recognition of their great work as well as our friendship, and yes, as a tribute to these guys.

Most of you guys possibly heard of The Buena Vista Social Club. The Buena Vista Social Club was a members club in Havana, Cuba that closed in the 1940s as well as a 1990's band, an album, a film and an unofficial brand name representing the musical spirit of the original Havana club. The original Buena Vista Social Club held dances and musical activities, becoming a popular location for musicians to meet and play during the 1940s. In the 1990s, nearly 50 years after the club was closed, it inspired a recording made by Cuban musician Juan de Marcos Gonzalez and American guitarist Ry Cooder with traditional Cuban musicians, some of whom were veterans who had performed at the club during the height of its popularity.

So where is the connection ?

'Malavita' is an Italian expression for crime. It could also be understood as a counter phrase to 'Buena Vista' in some aspects. Using the Italian word is kind of a hint to my Italian roots. The Malavita Antisocial Club stands a lot for the lyrical topics which I deal with on this album. It´s all about conspiracy, incorporated crime organizations, mass enslavement and a lot of other topics which I have been dealing with over the past 30 years, mostly by reading books and being interested in various aspects of politics, history and spiritual issues of all kind.

On the other hand, The Malavita Antisocial Club stands for a bunch of cool guys who have decided to lend me their talents as songwriters and musicians in order to make my dream come true, which I am extremely thankful for. There are people from almost every period of my musical life involved, so I think the comparison is quite a cool one.

Not the least, I was just looking for a cool moniker for the album and I dare to say, I found a pretty cool one."

Wolfheart featuring The Malavita Antisocial Club will release their debut, Morphean Empires, later this year. The tracklist is as follows:

"The God Delusion"
"Morphean Empires"
"Souls In The Void"
"Subconscious Ruins"
