DÉTENTE – HELLION’s Ann Boleyn Issues Statement About Unauthorized Tracks On Reissued Album

Hellion singer Ann Boleyn has issued a statement concerning her unauthorized inclusion of bonus tracks on the recently reissued Decline album by Détente.
“It has been brought to my attention that an album including my name and voice was used without my authorization on a reissue of Détente’s Decline album.”
Ann Boleyn joined Détente in 2007 following the death of the band’s singer Dawn Crosby. In 2008 and 2009 Boleyn performed songs by Dawn Crosby’s former bands, Détente and Fear Of God throughout Europe and the US.
“I regard Dawn Crosby as one of the most underrated female metal singers ever. I respect for her voice, lyrics, and her contributions to the thrash metal scene. Since I am not a thrash singer, I considered my time in Détente as a unique opportunity to broaden my experience.
“In late 2009, I was asked to go into a studio and record some new material with Detente. I have always been involved in the writing process in any band I have ever been in and always write my own melody lines and lyrics. I was therefore surprised to learn that Détente had recorded basic tracks without my involvement, and especially when I was handed lyrics that were written by someone else.
“While some of the songs had potential, I did not believe that the new Detente songs stood up to the quality of those that were recorded with Dawn. I was also very unhappy with the lyrics. One song was called, ‘Kill Rush Limbaugh.’ Another song was very disrespectful to people who serve in the military. I would not sing songs that were disrespectful to people in the military or that disrespected peoples’ political viewpoints. I ran through the songs a few times to see if they could be changed and improved. A few days later, I learned that the band had found a new singer.
“When it came to writing new music, it was clear that the band and myself were not a good match. I, however, had no bad feelings toward them.
“It came as a complete shock to learn that the same recordings which apparently prompted my ouster from Détente, and which were never completed, are now being commercially released, let alone without my authorization.”
Following her stint in Détente, singer Ann Boleyn returned to Hellion. Hellion includes drummer Simon Wright (AC/DC, Dio, UFO), keyboardist Scott Warren (Heaven And Hell, Dio, Type O Negative), bassist Bjorn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen), and guitarists Maxwell Carlisle and Ira Black. The band is recently returned from the Monsters Of Rock Cruise, where Ann Boleyn also made guest appearances with Y&T, Doro, and Dio Disciples.
