Drummer Ian Haugland Regrets EUROPE Not Joining DEF LEPPARD For Hysteria World Tour; Interview Streaming

In a new episode of the Thunder Underground Podcast, the hosts are joined by Ian Haugland, drummer for the band Europe. Ian talks about about War Of Kings, playing new songs live, working with producer extraordinaire Dave Cook and the way he contributed to the writing of WOK, song inspiration when they found out Jack Bruce of Cream had passed away, his time playing with Glenn Hughes, how Cozy Powell influenced him, seeing Rainbow as his first ever concert, a desire to perform with Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmore, a possible missed opportunity to become bigger in America, and a ton more.

Ian says his drum sound on War Of Kings is closest to the sound he has always wanted thanks to Dave Cobb, and the producer on The Final Countdown album told him No on the drum sound he wanted.

Ian also says he thinks Europe should have accepted an offer from Def Leppard to tour with them on the Hysteria World Tour, and it may have helped Europe become bigger in America.

Ian states his time with Glenn Hughes was great, and gave him confidence as a drummer he could perform classic material at a high level.

He also says he would love to work with Geddy Lee, Jimmy Page or Ritchie Blackmore. He also said they found out Jack Bruce of Cream died while writing "Angles (With Broken Hearts)" in the studio and it had an effect on the process.

Interview starts at the 16:25 mark:
