Dweezil Zappa has announced a 38-city, North American fall tour, part of his yearlong celebration of the 50th anniversary of Freak Out!, the debut from Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. The tour begins with two LA-area dates at the Coach House (September 29th) and Canyon Club (September 30th) and includes October 30th at the Beacon Theater in NYC. Tickets will be on sale July 15th, and limited edition tour merch can be purchased here (zero proceeds will go to the Zappa Family Trust).

“On Freak Out! specifically, Dweezil looks at songs like "Who Are the Brain Police?" and "The Return Of The Son Of The Monster Magnet" as incredibly foretelling,” writes Rolling Stone. "Pure insane distortion, noise, aggro feedback - there was no sound more dangerous than Zappa's at the time," said Dweezil. "In 1966, taking home the Mothers of Invention was like bringing a feral tiger home from the circus and asking to keep it."

Dweezil is now touring under his birth name, following a claim of alleged “trademark violation” from his brother Ahmet Zappa, head of the Zappa Family Trust, who controls the trademark to Dweezil’s long-running, Grammy winning project, Zappa Plays Zappa.
