EXTREME Guitarist NUNO BETTENCOURT Talks STEVEN TYLER - "This Is A Guy Who You Aspire To Be Like"

Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt recently spoke with AXS.com about the band's forthcoming US leg of their Pornograffitti Live! 25th Anniversary Tour, writing the classic Pornograffitti album, performing at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992, and working with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. An excerpt from the interview is available below:

Q: I have to ask you about the Queen Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992. What was that experience like for you?

Nuno: "I could never wrap it up into a small answer what it was like except to say that it was life changing and one of the biggest moments of my musical life. Not only do you get to pay tribute to one of your favorite singers and bands of all time, but you also share the stage with Guns N' Roses, Metallica, David Bowie, Liza Minnelli….the list goes on and on. Icons. To get invited to this celebration of life and then when you're about to go on, to have Brian May gave you the most amazing introduction ever. I still get chills when I watch it. I'm so glad that it was televised because I have it to watch for the rest of my life. It was just incredible."

Q: Are there any other highlights that stick out to you as memorable?

Nuno: "Of course you have the early stuff, like the first time you hear yourself on the radio. But just recently I had another one of those really big moments. I went to South Africa with Kings of Chaos and shared the stage with Steven Tyler. We did 'Toys In The Attic', 'Back In The Saddle' and 'Dream On'. Then he sang 'More Than Words' with me. This is a guy who's the reason why you play music in the first place. Someone who you aspire to be like. To be side by side with him and sharing the mic was just incredible. Playing the classic songs that I had grown up with. This is bucket list stuff and for that, I'm very thankful."
