FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Guitarist ZOLTAN BATHORY On Calling New Album And Justice For None - "We Knew It Would Piss Off The Online Trolls"
May 29, 2018, 6 years ago
Speaking with Guitar World, Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory discussed the band's new album, And Justice For None, acknowledging the obvious nod to Metallica but claiming there were other reasons for it. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
Q: What made the band decide to name the new album And Justice For None?
Zoltan: "We were in a lawsuit with the label, and it was a long process. The thing is, no one really wins a lawsuit. So, when we were finished, And Justice For None was a line that Ivan (Moody / vocals) dropped. We started thinking and decided to call the album that because it embodied the situation we went through. It’s also a nod to Metallica and we knew it would also piss off the online trolls (laughs). It was perfect!"
Q: What can you tell me about “Sham Pain”?
Zoltan: "It's a fantastic song, lyrically and one of the time capsules of our lives. The love and the hate. If you listen to the lyrics, it talks about the circus we went through. Musically, it has a pop-culture vibe to it."
Q: There’s incredible emotion and ferocity in the track "Fake", and particularly in Ivan’s vocal. Was that by design?
Zoltan: "When we record an album, we always try to do it as a whole and not just songs. It needs to have a balance. When we looked at the body of the record, we realized it didn’t have a familiar heavy, angry song (that had the sound) that we started out with. So, Jeremy and I went in and started recording our older sound. At the time, we were having a lot of arguments with the label. Ivan was pissed off, and he went into the studio with the idea that he was already fucking angry. The anger was real."

Five Finger Death Punch have released an official video for the new song “Sham Pain” off their long-awaited seventh studio album, And Justice For None, due out May 18th. Check it out below.
"Sham Pain" song marks the second of three brand new pre-order tracks and follows last week’s release “Fake” which generated just under 1 million streams in the US during its first week and made the viral chart on Spotify in multiple countries. Fans can expect one more additional song to be revealed on May 4th. Listen to “Sham Pain” below.
“’Sham Pain’ is a lyrical snapshot of probably the biggest, yet most chaotic year of this band’s career,” says guitarist Zoltan Bathory. “Everyone has a different way of dealing with the moments when life hands them lemons... some complain and some make lemonade. Us, we pour gasoline on it and then hit it with a rocket launcher. Sarcasm has always been our ‘Art of War’ (if from naming the band ‘Five Finger Death Punch’ you haven’t figured it out yet), but just wait until you see the video we made for this song.”
And Justice For None, out on May 18th, is available for physical pre-order in the following formats:
- Standard physical CD (13 tracks)
- Deluxe physical CD (13 tracks + 3 bonus tracks + Deluxe artwork)
- Vinyl (13 tracks + 3 bonus tracks + Deluxe gatefold artwork)
The band is also offering fans a variety of new CD/merchandise bundles.
