North American syndicated rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands celebrates the 35th anniversary of Duke by British Rock Hall of Famers, Genesis.
“In March 1980 we were not even ninety days into a new decade when Genesis, now a trio with Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, released their Duke album and, although it was the veteran progressive rockers’ tenth studio album, it contained their first Top 15 US hits, “Misunderstanding” and “Turn It On Again”, which took them to the top of the sales charts.”
Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins share the story of Genesis’ post-Peter Gabriel era in this InTheStudio syndicated radio episode. The band’s decision to continue after Gabriel left for a solo career in 1975 was a difficult one but, as Mike Rutherford shares with program host Redbeard, a worthy and in some ways courageous move.
“We did question ourselves as to whether it was time to stop. I have always had a fear of carrying something past its natural finishing date. Then we thought, ‘Well, there’s a good writing team here, let’s have a go’. And basically we never looked back.” - Mike Rutherford
