GLEN DROVER - "You Shouldn't Try To Play Something Note For Note; In MEGADETH There Was a Lot Of Pressure For That"

Guitarist Glen Drover (Megadeth, King Diamond, Eidolon) in featured in a new interview with the online teaching site Guitar Zoom. He discusses  his latest work and his opinion on his brother Shawn Drover leaving Megadeth.

You shouldn't try to play something note for note. Because, for me, you sound like a robot, at the end of the day, if you try to do something note for note. And then you're just kind of a puppet. And I don't believe in that."

He continued: "In MEGADETH, there was a lot of pressure from not only the fans but certain people in the band for that. And I was just very… It's, like, 'This is not really what I envisioned from a musical standpoint.' As an individual guitar player, you have your own thing. For me, it didn't take too long to get to the point where it became boring."

Drover has finished the final mix for the upcoming single, "Seven Spirits". He has issued the following statement:

"This time around, the singer that I have collaborated with is Henning Basse, from the German band Metallium. I have wanted to do something with Henning since hearing the first Metallium album years ago, so I'm very excited about this release! If you have never heard of Metallium, do yourself a favour and check them out!! They have many great albums to choose from.

I have NOT decided on a release date for this new single, but I can tell you that it will only be available through digital download, and will be available very soon."

Drover is holding a contest for artwork for the single "Seven Spirits".

Says Glen: "Submit your artwork ideas and the winner gets to have their artwork on my new single coming out soon... a good reference for style and look for what im looking for is attached here, which is the artwork that was done for the "Walls Of Blood" single, released last October. Keep in mind the title "Seven Spirits". The artwork should reflect that..."

Glen, and his brother (drummer) Shawn Drover both joined Megadeth in 2004. In 2008 Glen quit the band; unexpectedly Shawn recently left the band along with guitarist Chris Broderick, who was Glen's replacement. Glen has since taken to Facebook with the following statement:

"I'm very sorry, but to those who want to see me back in Megadeth, that will never happen. Other cool things coming up. Again, sorry, but there is NO chance I would ever do that. Now saying all of that, thanks a ton for all of your awesome support and it was fun while I was there playing all those cool shows and meeting a lot of you!"

Fan-filmed video of the Drover brothers performing with former Judas Priest frontman Tim "Ripper" Owens during the Masters Of Metal Christmas show in Holyoke, MA can be viewed below. The show took place on December 12th, 2014 at the Paper City Music Shop:
