Guitar Mania EU has posted an interview with Gojira's Joe Duplantier, conducted at the Rock in Vienna Festival on June 5th. Joe discussed the recording of Gojira's new album, Magma, the new video "Silvera", his guitars and much more.

Duplantier: "It took two years to write all the songs, and we wrote more songs and dumped maybe 2/3 of all these songs. We kept just the core of what we thought was the best. It was such a nightmare. One day we're super-happy with a new thing we did, and then we both listen to it at home, and we come back and say, 'Out'." 

Gojira, released their new album, Magma, on June 17th via Roadrunner Records. The band recently released a music video for the album track “Low Lands”.

Says Joe Duplantier: “We are releasing a new video for the song “Low Lands”. It is an intimate and poetic piece directed by our dear cousin and friend Alain Duplantier. One of the "characters" featured in this film is "Gayeres" the family house where Mario and I grew up. We jammed to our first songs, started Gojira, and recorded most of our albums there. Our sister Gabrielle also contributed to the making of this video. We want to thank all the wonderful people who worked hard to make this happen and all our fans for supporting us with so much passion and respect. We hope you'll enjoy the trip as much as we do.”

Magma took the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums chart. The album marks the highest chart debuts of Gojira’s career landing them at #4 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart, #6 on Billboard’s Tastemaker Albums chart and Top 25 on the Billboard 200. Furthermore, Gojira have earned career high chart positions around the globe including Top 10’s in France, Canada, Switzerland, Austria, Finland, and Norway with Top 15 debuts in Australia and Germany.

Gojira have announced details of a massive North American headline tour which will get underway this fall. The nationwide trek will see Gojira joined by Tesseract and is set to kick-off September 21st at Silver Spring, Maryland’s The Fillmore. From there Gojira will traverse North America through October where the tour will eventually wrap up on October 23rd at New York City’s Terminal 5 (tour itinerary below).
