HEART - 40th Anniversary Of Debut Album Dreamboat Annie Celebrated; InTheStudio Audio Interview

North American syndicated rock radio show and website, InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands, celebrates the Valentine’s Day 1976 release of Heart’s debut album, Dreamboat Annie, with Rock And Roll Hall of Famers, Ann & Nancy Wilson.

Says InTheStudio host Redbeard: “If there is a real-life Cinderella story in classic rock, this is it. Ann and Nancy Wilson were two well traveled Marine Corps brats who built a sisterhood into one of rock’s finest musical franchises. But as you will hear, the road to success was a long one, involving border crossings, love affairs, and indie label blues that would finally culminate into a 40-plus year Hall Of Fame career.

“Dreamboat Annie, originally released on Canadian independent label Mushroom Records with very little funding, started quietly in the Canadian West, then in the American Northwest like a slow moving gypsy caravan into the rest of the country, with Heart winding down the road visiting radio stations, playing clubs, and selling Dreamboat Annie literally out of their car trunk! The result? By the end of the ‘70s  Dreamboat Annie would sell over three million copies and garner three hits, “Magic Man”, “Crazy On You” and the title track, “Dreamboat Annie”.

Nancy Wilson reveals to Redbeard the thematic story behind the album title Dreamboat Annie. “Ann just had the idea of calling it Dreamboat Annie, ‘of course not about myself’, she says, which is true. It’s not really about Ann... There’s that theme that comes up in a lot of our songs like “Bebe Le Strange”and “Little Queen”. It’s a character that sort of grows up through our albums, which sort of represents us but is not necessarily Ann.”
