Texas based heavy metal outfit Immortal Guardian brought their infamous mobile Shred Sled out to last weekend's X Games to provide some extreme musical entertainment for the extreme sports fans out at Circuit of the Americas.
Immortal Guardian performed three sets during the X Games on Friday, June 5, at 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. in the Next X Parks area, followed by a finale mobile performance at 5:30 p.m., to kick off the Moto X Enduro X event. The first two performances went smoothly as spectators were left in awe by the group’s virtuosic musicality highlighted by frontman Carlos Zema's soaring vocals and guitar/keyboardist Gabriel Guardian's insane ability to shred simultaneously on both instruments. However, complications arose during the final set. As the announcers introduced the band and the Shred Sled, the clouds opened up and a short downpour occurred, drenching both the band and spectators. Immortal Guardian pushed on through the rain and gained that much more respect from the audience, who welcomed the break from the heat. Despite the band's gear getting soaked, no electrical issues occurred and no members were electrocuted.
"To this day we've never stopped playing during a performance," stated founding member Gabriel Guardian, "We weren't gonna let a little rain stop us from an opportunity like the X Games."
Immortal Guardian recently debuted the video for "Walk Alone", off their Revolution Part I EP. The video's narrative follows a schizophrenic sleeper-cell who's been brainwashed and sent on a mission to assassinate his target, Immortal Guardian. The main character is programmed in a Manchurian Candidate / Clockwork Orange fashion and then throughout the video is tormented while seeing vocalist Carlos Zema in his subconscious before finally being activated and sent on his mission.
Fans in Austin, Texas can catch Immortal Guardian live tonight at Empire Control Room and Garage alongside Imminent Descent, Audrey Rose and more. This free show ($5 for minors) kicks off at 4 p.m. with Immortal Guardian taking the headlining spot.
