JIMI HENDRIX Estate Files Lawsuit Over Purple Haze Liqueur
March 2, 2016, 8 years ago
Jimi Hendrix’ family estate, Experience Hendrix LLC, is suing his brother Leon Hendrix and California company Tiger Paw Distributors, claiming their Purple Haze Liqueur infringes on the late guitar legend’s trademark.
According to TMZ, Experience Hendrix wants a judge to shut down all sales for obvious reasons - it says Leon has no authority to use the name or likeness, plus he's done this before. In 2008, Experience Hendrix blocked sales of Jimi Hendrix Electric Vodka... which it believes Leon was behind.
Experience Hendrix suing Leon and his business partner for all their profits and to get an injunction blocking all future sales.
The bedroom in London where Jimi Hendrix stayed in the 60s was opened to the public last month after a £2.4milion restoration project. Hendrix, widely regarded as one of the best guitarists who ever lived, stayed at 23 Brook Street between 1968 and 1970.
The house, in Mayfair, has now been painstakingly restored to look exactly as it did in 1969, using pictured of him inside and recollections of former girlfriend Kathy Etchingham. The entire third floor was opened to the public, and it also includes and exhibition chronicling his movements in this two years.
