LYNYRD SKYNYRD Celebrate 40th Anniversary Of One More From The Road; ; InTheStudio Audio Interview

North American syndicated rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History’s Greatest Rock Bands, mark the 40th anniversary of the surprise triple platinum-selling Lynyrd Skynyrd live album, One More From The Road.

In September of 1976 the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the venerable Fox Theatre in Atlanta each needed a minor miracle. Make no mistake, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s biggest life and death turning point was still thirteen months into the unforeseeable future, but a relentless 300 shows a year dubbed the Torture Tour had original members dropping like flies, and album sales had likewise slipped.

By mid-summer 1976 three things were evident: America’s self-conscious Bicentennial was entering the history books even as the wrecking ball was headed towards the Fox Theatre; a double live album “best of” from Peter Frampton was rewriting the record books in the music business; and Lynyrd Skynyrd was selling more concert tickets than Gimme Back My Bullets albums. A stopgap measure was in order. Lynyrd Skynyrd needed a recording that would capture their lightning in a bottle, while the Fox Theatre needed a lightning rod to make it a cause celebre’.

Founding Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington shared with In The Studio host Redbeard the story behind One More From The Road, the decisions made and the positive outcome that was produced for both band and venue.

“We played three nights, and it was to save the Fox too. We got a Grammy that year, the humanitarian award, for saving the Fox Theater from being torn down and made a parking lot.” - Gary Rossington
