METALLICA Guitarist KIRK HAMMETT - “A Lot Of Times When I'm Really Stressed Out Or I'm Dealing With Anxiety, I'll Just Play Until I Calm Down”; Latest Episode Of Ernie Ball’s String Theory Series Streaming

Guitar string-maker Ernie Ball is lifting the curtain on the latest episode of String Theory, this time with Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett in the spotlight, reports Adweek.

The web video series features sit-downs with influential players from a range of genres - Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts, Justin Chancellor of Tool and Billy Idol's longtime guitarist Steve Stevens - and lets the camera roll as they talk about their first guitars, their influences, their personal styles. In Hammett's case, the result is an unusually intimate, often stirring video showing the high priest of thrash discussing not just his career, but his emotional life.

"If I'm bummed out, I'll go to my guitar," says Hammett, still a credible stage threat at 53. "A lot of times when I'm really stressed out or I'm dealing with anxiety, I'll just play until I calm down. When I have this feeling inside that needs to get out, the guitar helps that feeling. It's a creative tool, but on the other hand, it's also a rehabilitative, emotional, spiritual tool that I use to feed my inner self."

In the clip below, Metallica pull back the curtain in a new behind-the-scenes video chronicling the making of their "Moth Into Flame" video courtesy of Rolling Stone. Director Tom Kirk serves as a guide throughout the clip, discussing everything from the labor-intensive shoot to his desire to create a video that blends a retro rock and roll sensibility with contemporary elements.

Kirk also chats about his love for Metallica, saying, "As soon as I understood the power of guitars and drums and bass and insane vocals, Metallica was there. They've always been on my radar as a band to work with."

Metallica previously posted the video below, filmed at Metallica HQ during the writing and recording of "Plow", the song that later became "Moth Into Flame", from the album Hardwired...To Self-Destruct - available everywhere on November 18th.
