MORBID ANGEL - "We Play Death Metal, Not Candy-Ass Pop Stuff"

Morbid Angel bassist and vocalist Steve Tucker - who appeared on Formulas Fatal To The Flesh (1997), Gateways To Annihilation (2000), and Heretic (2003) - has returned to the band, replacing David Vincent.
Tucker recently appeared on Metal Messiah Radio, explaining how he came to reunite with Morbid Angel. The complete interview can be heard via the audio player below; a brief excerpt has been transcribed.
"All I really know is that when I got the phone call from Trey (Azagthoth, guitarist), when he called me to ask me to come back this time, he told me, 'Man, I want the band to be death metal. I want the band to be brutal. I want the band to be underground. I wanna do what we used to do, because I love doing that, and that's what I wanna do.' I think Trey is brilliant; I always have, and I always will. I mean, Trey, just like myself, he has his moments of insanity; we all do. So it is what it is. I mean, c'mon - that's probably why we play death metal and not some candy-ass pop stuff. All I know is I'm back in Morbid Angel to do a death metal album. I expect the album to be full-on death metal. Obviously, it's a Morbid Angel album, there'll be twists and turns, there'll be stuff that's different, but I think it being aggressive and it being underground is really what it's gonna be about."
And the really good news is, Morbid Angel has already begun work on songs for the next album, as Tucker confirms. "Yeah, there's already songs written. This is something that we've been talking about now since way back - I think before the beginning of the year, we started talking about this. So, yeah, there's already five, six songs, and they're great Morbid Angel songs. I think the people will be very happy."
