MOTHER'S FINEST To Release "Shut Up" Single For St. Nicholas Day
December 1, 2014, 10 years ago
American funk rock sensation, Mother’s Finest, will release their first new song in 11 years on December 6th as a present to all their European fans for St. Nicholas Day.
The digital single, "Shut Up", is taken from the forthcoming album Goody 2 Shoes & The Filthy Beast, ready for a release in sping 2015, and shows that the band is better than ever in delivering the perfect mixture between rock and funk.
The band says: "The song is about people who don't know when to shut up! A person who loves to hear themselves talk or someone who just talks their way into more trouble or a lover you wanna kiss and make love to but they can't shut up long enough for you to do that. After all you learn more by being quite and listening. The song was inspired by Joyce's riff and Dion filled in the rest of the groove with a good collaboration on the lyrics. A great rocker!"
Goody 2 Shoes & The Filthy Beast will be the band’s first studio recording since their 2003 release Meta-Funk’n-Physical. The current lineup includes vocalists Joyce Kennedy and Glenn Murdock, bassist Wyzard and guitarist Moses Mo, all four original members of the first line-up dating back to 1970. Guitarist John Hayes and drummer Dion Derek have proved to complement Mother’s Finest perfectly since their comeback in 1989.
Mother's Finest recently signed a European recording deal with Steamhammer/SPV. The label will release the new studio album, Goody 2 Shoes & The Filthy Beast, in spring 2015.
The group achieved their international breakthrough with a spectacular TV appearance at one of the legendary Rockpalast concerts promoted by German TV station WDR in March 1978, when Joyce Kennedy’s awesome performance and the band’s red hot hits such as "Mickey’s Monkey", "Baby Love" and "Give You All The Love" wowed millions of TV viewers, making the band famous practically over night.
Steamhammer/SPV are of course delighted with the latest addition to their roster. A&R; manager Olly Hahn: “For two years I’ve been trying to get this band and now it’s finally happened: Mother’s Finest are on Steamhammer/SPV. When I heard the album Iron Age in 1981, I was totally blown away by their power. And when you hear and see them now, nothing has changed. The new album will be their first in 12 years, so expect an exciting ride between rock and funk that you haven’t heard in years!”
Vocalist Joyce Kennedy is also looking forward to a promising collaboration: “After almost two years, Mothers Finest takes pride to announce our association with SPV/Steamhammer as our record label, and expect a long, successful, prosperous relationship. We as a band with our own identity believe that SPV/Steamhammer supports the music as much as the trend. Mothers Finest and SPV/Steamhammer, the perfect fit. Are You Ready To Rock?”
