PANTERA Comment On Death Of The Voice Contestant CHRISTINA GRIMMIE - “She Was Gunned Down The Same Way That DIMEBAG DARRELL Was”

PANTERA have commented on the death of 2014 The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie, the 22-year-old singer who was gunned down while signing autographs late Friday after a show at The Plaza Live theater in Orlando, FL. The man who killed her was Kevin James Loibl, 27, of St. Petersburg, Florida, according to Orlando police.

“We are so sad and disappointed to hear that Christina Grimmie was gunned down the same way that Dimebag Darrell was,” the band’s statement reads. “After Dime's murder, we all prayed that our industry (i.e. club owners & promoters) would do whatever they needed to do to protect artists from gun wielding fanatics. Sadly, that's not the case and another rising star had to pay the consequences with her life. SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE! RIP Christina & RIP Dime, Jeff Thompson, Erin Halk, and Nathan Bray.”

On December 8, 2004, Dimebag Darrell was shot onstage while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. 25-year-old former Marine Nathan Gale shot Abbott three times in the head, killing him instantly. Gale killed a total of four people while wounding seven others.
