PHIL ANSELMO Launches Death Metal Project SCOUR Featuring CATTLE DECAPITATION, ANIMOSITY, STRONG INTENTION, PIG DESTROYER Members
September 30, 2015, 9 years ago
Phil Anselmo (Down, Superjoint, ex-Pantera) is working on a new death metal project, Scour, featuring past and present members of Cattle Decapitation, Animosity, Strong Intention, and Pig Destroyer.
Speaking with Hellbound.ca, Anselmo states: “The death metal thing, well really it’s tracked and, in my opinion, finished. It’s a matter of negotiation now between me and one of the other members of when and why and what and band names and all. It’s all political stuff and semantics. Other than that, the Scour thing was something that just popped up, and it’s something that I think I can kill, something I can lay it out. They’re short songs. It’s a short EP, and that’s something I can knock out, I guess, after the Danzigs tour. And yes, I said Danzigs, and that’s a long story.”
Describing the style of Scour, Phil says: “I think (there’s) one of the fellows from Cattle Decapitation, but it’s predominantly, in my ear, modern-ish black metal-sounding, thrashy black metal type stuff. I’m going to put my own spin on it. I don’t have to sound like your boy from Gorgoroth (laughter) to get the point across, man. There’s other ways of singing over that style of music, and I shall employ many styles.”

Reportedly involved in the Scour project are John Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Derek Engemann (Cattle Decapitation), Chase Fraser (ex-Animosity, Decrepit Birth), and Jesse Schobel (Strong Intention, Cast The Stone). Stay tuned for updates.
An official live video for “Ozena” from Phil Anselmo’s reactivated metal giants Superjoint (formerly Superjoint Ritual), can be seen below. The footage was shot at the House of Blues in New Orleans, LA on July 26th. The track originally appeared on the Use Once And Destroy album.
This November, Anselmo's Housecore Horror Fest will celebrate its third year of audio and visual bedlam. Set to commence in San Antonio, Texas at the Aztec Theater (201 E Commerce St.) on November 13th -15th, the horror-themed film and metal gala promises to be louder, gorier and more bludgeoning than ever before boasting two film-screening rooms, multiple vendors, special artist signings throughout the weekend and what's morphing into one of the most debilitating lineups of the year!
Already stacked with a crushing bill that includes Agoraphobic Nosebleed performing their second show ever, Corrosion Of Conformity featuring Pepper Keenan, Claudio Simonetti's Goblin doing a live score of George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead, Superjoint, Eyehategod, Nails, Crowbar, Dropdead, Autopsy, Poison Idea, and so many others, the gatekeepers of Housecore Horror Fest today welcome the additions of thrash metal icons, Exodus, veteran death metal legion, Incantation, apocalyptic hardcore punk unit, Gasmiasma, atmospheric drone doom duo, Muscle And Marrow and theatrical heavy metal legend King Diamond whose performance will feature 1987 quintessential second full-length, Abigail, in its harrowing entirety! As an added bonus, Gwar's fabled Sleazy P. Martini will also be attending the annual gathering as a special guest!
And the awesome won't stop there. The fest has expanded the range of its grotesqueries, with a second stage located just steps away from the Aztec Theater. The Korova, at 107 E. Martin St. in San Antonio, will play host to even MORE bands throughout the weekend. Stay tuned for additional band announcements for The Korova in the coming weeks.
Comments Anselmo: "I am beyond excited to announce that the mighty King Diamond will be attacking the house on Friday the 13th at the Housecore Horror Festival. All hail the King."
Adds Maryland Deathfest co-founder Ryan Taylor, who's shaping this year's HHF lineup alongside Anselmo: "It's been a lot of fun piecing together this lineup with Philip. It's gonna be a wild one, so get your tickets while you still can!"

Horror filmmakers are also encouraged to submit their films and winners will be selected in various categories and given the coveted Rot-Scar Award. And yes, Anselmo does watch them all. Additional bands, films and special guests to be announced in the near future. Until then, suffer.
