RICHIE SAMBORA Reflects On Pre-BON JOVI Audition For KISS - "I Didn't Really Know What I Was Doing Back Then And Didn't Really Want The Gig"

Metal Express Radio's Mick Burgess recently caught up with former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora during his UK tour with Orianthi supporting Paul Rodgers. An excerpt from the discussion is available below.
Q: Before joining Bon Jovi you auditioned for KISS to replace Ace Frehley. What do you recall about your audition?
Sambora: "I didn`t really know what I was doing back then and didn`t really want the gig. They wanted someone to replace Ace but I think they wanted someone who worshipped them. I liked their music but I wasn`t into them in a big way. I was more into Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, BB King, Albert King and Johnny Winter and stuff like that which was totally different to KISS so I wasn`t really that into the idea of joining the band. I just thought it`d be a good thing to go along and give it a go, but I didn`t feel like wearing any of their make up, that`s for sure."
Q: It`s been a few years since your last solo album, Aftermath Of A Low Down. Do you have plans for another one or is your focus on the work with Orianthi for now?
Sambora: "We have two albums already recorded and we intend on staying out on the road for a while so people can understand that we are a viable entity. We have to go and visit everybody and play for everybody so really there is no time for me to consider a new solo record. All I`m concentrating on at the moment is working, recording and touring with Orianthi."

RSO, the new outfit lead by Richie Sambora (ex-Bon Jovi) and Orianthi (Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper, solo artist) recently completed a tour of Brazil. For this run of dates the band also included Alice Cooper sticksman Glen Sobel, Mike Bradford (ex-Kid Rock) on bass, keyboardist John Webster and famed Brazilian percussionist Laercio Dacosta.
The setlist consisted of solo tunes from both Sambora and Orianthi, Bon Jovi hits written or co-written by Sambora, and some unexpected covers/jams such as Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" and the U2 / BB King collaboration "When Love Comes To Town".
