SANCTUARY Guitarist Lenny Rutledge - "We Have Been Talking About A Possible Release Of Old Demos And Live Material"

In a new interview with Metal Wani, founder/guitarist Lenny Rutledge of reactivated Seattle metal band, Sanctuary, discusses the band's new album The Year The Sun Died, Warrel Dane's voice, new music, ideas and much more. An excerpt follows:

Q: What is the rapport and working relationship between the band members like after being apart from each other all these years? Is it any different compared to what it was like in the late 80’s?

A: "Sometimes it’s the same, some are different. I think over the years we have developed patience and tolerance."

Q: What are the band’s plans for 2015? What does the touring circuit currently look like for the band and are there any festival appearances fans should look out for, perhaps next year?

A: "In March of 2015 we will be touring with Overkill in Europe and we finish with headlining shows in Greece. We also paly the Rock Hard festival in May 2015. We will be continuing to write and record as well. We have also been talking about a possible release of old demos and live material. Nothing confirmed yet but it is a very good possibility."

Sanctuary was formed in Seattle in 1985, they released two studio albums on Epic Records, Refuge Denied (produced by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine) in 1987 and Into The Mirror Black in 1989. Worldwide touring with the likes of Megadeth, Warlock, Fates Warning and Death Angel, just to name a few, followed each album. Singer Warrel Dane’s sky high vocals combined with guitarist Lenny Rutledge’s more mature take on classic thrash riffs separated Sanctuary from the throes of metal bands struggling to get noticed as at the time. Simply put, Sanctuary offered something fresh sounding in the muddled world of ‘80s thrash.
