STEEL PANTHER Bassist LEXXI FOXX - "I’m Not Too Smart, So That’s Why I Still Live With My Mom"
May 27, 2016, 8 years ago
Steel Panther bassist Lexxi Foxx recently spoke with The Brag. He discusses social media, how bitching the band looks in spandex, his love of Australian women, and the benefit of boner pills. Following is an excerpt from the story:
Foxx and his bandmates are happy to embrace technology in order to sustain their glam rock image, but when it comes to album releases and promotional methods, they stick to what they know. In February they released the live album and accompanying film, Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage. While online hype machines and surprise album releases have started to dominate the mainstream music sphere, Steel Panther prefer a grassroots approach.
“Surprise records? That’s a bunch of crap,” Foxx says. “You should be able to just promote like back in the day. Back in the ’80s, back in the ’70s, you did your promotional tours, like we did for Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage. We went all the way to the UK and to New York and we had one here in Los Angeles. Technology’s changing so much. Open record stores back up. Record labels should just come back and just do it all ’80s-style again."
“All this technology and social media shit, it’s way over my head. We’re all old, so we like it old-school. I have a Twitter account, but I barely even go on that. I’ll check it every once in a while, but I don’t have a Facebook page or anything like that. I don’t have Instagram. The band will do things like that, but I’m not a very social media guy. I’ve never been into things like that. I wish I still had a rotary phone. I couldn’t even work this damn smartphone. Of course, I’m not too smart myself, so that’s why I still live with my mom.”

For the uninitiated, Steel Panther was formed in 2000 and is Michael Starr (lead singer), Satchel (guitarist), Lexxi Foxx (bass) and Stix Zadinia (drums).
Live From Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage was taped in Los Angeles last October in front of a live audience of scantily clad woman (and one old creepy fat guy who somehow got a ticket) inside the uncharacteristically large and professionally lit garage of Ms. Foxx (Bobbie Brown), who coincidentally also happens to be the mother of Lexxi Foxx. The musical portions of the film feature the band performing acoustic versions of their most popular songs such as “Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World” and “Community Property” as well as one new song titled, “Then You Came In”. Several female violin players who are “very easy on the eyes,” says Stix, are featured and lay through the various hits with the band.
Between songs, the film follows the mischievousness of Steel Panther as they figure out who they can and cannot sleep with; and as they navigate the world as the biggest glam rock band that never was from 1985, in 2016.
“It was so much fun playing our songs on these new wooden guitars in my mom’s garage!” said Lexxi Fox. “Satchel says that he might be my new dad, but I’m not really sure what that means!” he added.
