The Metal Islands Documentary Due Later This Month; Video Preview Streaming

The team that brought you the award-winning documentary The Distorted Island, will release its most recent film, The Metal Islands, on October 26th. This time they focus on metal in the Caribbean region.

The Metal Islands documentary is the product of an extensive research project led by Dr. Nelson Varas-Díaz that aims to explore the particularities of metal scenes in Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. This film examines the role of history, culture and politics in shaping these scenes. Check out a trailer below.

The premiere will take place in Puerto Rico on October 25th at the C3TEC (Centro Criollo de Ciencia y Tecnología del Caribe) in the town of Caguas. Doors will open at 6pm and the first 170 visitors will be able to watch the documentary on the big screen. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

The team will also release the documentary in a DVD / CD package. The DVD will include the documentary with English subtitles. The CD will include a compilation of bands from various metal subgenres in the three countries in order to give listeners a taste of metal music in the region. Rafael Bracero from the Puerto Rico Metal Alliance organized the compilation. The DVD / CD will be distributed free of charge via Facebook during December.

And, if you live in Puerto Rico, pick up a copy (free of charge) at the 10th Metal Flea Market sponsored by Thrash Corner Records, click here for further details.
