The University Of Puerto Rico will host an academic and musical event entitled “Metal Islands: Culture, History And Politics In Caribbean Heavy Metal Music” on December 4 (9AM-12PM).
This event is a conference and roundtable discussion addressing the varied manifestation of heavy metal music in the Caribbean, specifically Cuba, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Participants will discuss the role of local culture, history and politics in shaping their respective scenes and vice versa. The event will end with a concert featuring Tendencia, Abaddon RD, Dantesco and Zafakon on Sunday, December 6, as part of the 8th Metal Flea Market hosted by Thrash Corner Records. This will be the first time bands from all three countries share a stage.
The event is hosted by Puerto Rico Heavy Metal Studies, Thrash Corner Records and the PRMA - Puerto Rico Metal Alliance. Information on live streaming for the international community will be made available soon.
