Vancouver-based Trailight, launched by photographer-turned-musician Omer Cordell, has released the debut album, The Primitive Mountain, featuring performances from ex-Annihilator vocalist Dave Padden, Devin Townsend Project drummer Ryan Van Poederooyen, and former StrappingYoung Lad guitarist Jed Simon. 

Cordell recently spoke with BraveWords scribe Carl Begai about working on the album. In the excerpt below, Cordell offers his thoughts on working with Dave Padden:

"Oh my God. Corey (McBain/guitars) is the one that suggested I get Dave to sing, and he said 'You have no idea what this guy is capable of.' The thing is that when he suggested Dave, I had the most profound feeling that he was the right guy for the job. At that point I wouldn't consider anybody else. I hadn't met him before but intuitively I had a very profound feeling. Working with Dave ended up being great and more."

"To be honest, I was never a huge Annihilator fan, so when I finally did hear his stuff with Annihilator I knew he could sing. And I knew from what he did with Terror Syndrome that he could wail, but my God, what he did on the Trailight album... I think - and I've heard other people say it - this is Dave's best work. It encompasses all of his creative abilities."

Cordell recently issued the following update:

"Here we are! A year and a half of work has now come to an end and what an amazing experience this has been! I am now very proud and very happy to present to you my new album, The Primitive Mountain.

The album is now available for purchase here. A percentage of each album sale will be donated to VOKRA (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue). Music and kittens, how cool is that?!"
