Out are the programmed drums and vocalist Attila Csihar (who has returned to the Mayhem fold); in is Faust on human drums and Prime Evil on vox. So it’s no surprise that Aborym ’06 is a different malevolent beast than last heard on 03’s With No Human Intervention release. The most immediately discernible change is the elevation of keys in the mix, moving the guitars to the background. While the sound is still dark, industrial and sinister, the jackhammer hardness of past releases has been replaced by an almost symphonic quality. Vocally Prime Evil’s passionate gargle/belch at the mic certainly suits the industrial black metal material, while Csihar makes a zombied guest performance on one track as well. While this is by no means a failure, to these ears this constitutes a slight step backwards in quality and viciousness.
