BRAINSTORM - Firesoul

With a flick of the Bic, BRAINSTORM fire up ten new offerings, although the digi-pak will include a pair of bonus tracks (‘Disappeared’ and ‘Strangled’), as well as a second, live CD. Undercurrent of symphonic strings open the disc (also heard prominently throughout ‘The Chosen’), with pummeling, bottom heavy ‘Erased By The Dark’, while the speedy, proto-thrash of lyrically repetitive ‘Descendants Of Fire’ is powered by piston-pumping drums. Not since Liquid Monster have the Germans been able to equally balance the power and melody. Try the infectious rhythms of the title track on for size. 'Entering Solitude' is one of those big sounding pseudo-ballads Andy B Franck and the boys do so well, while ‘Recall The Real’ has an echoing, almost liturgical feel, to start. Fun ‘Shadowseeker’ adopts a punky guitar shuffle, before heading into more familiar territory, come the chorus.Bouncing atop drums interspersed with keys, an upbeat ‘Feed Me Lies’ contrasts sharpely with the moody closer, “…And I Wonder’. Don't know about a fire in my soul, but it definitely warms my heart.
