BUCKCHERRY – Fuck

The lyrical constant running through each of these six songs is that they all feature the word Fuck in the title; however the musical spectrum is wide and varied. Opening track “Somebody Fucked With Me” channels the unbridled aggression of Rage Against The Machine with its verses being a hate parade of who and what to fuck: the system, the lawyers, religion, politicians, parents, teachers. What a terrific salute to the middle finger! Then the unexpected is thrown at you – Buckcherry remarkably reworks Icona Pop’s hit “I Love It”, suitably renaming the tune “Say Fuck It”. And I love the way they incorporated ‘Crazy Bitch’ into the lyrics. This is quite possibly the most enjoyable and fun song of the summer. “The Motherfucker” barrels straight down the Buckcherry highway, never veering too far from center, providing the tried and true with a healthy dose of what enticed them in the first place. “I Don’t Give A Fuck” gets the funk right up in your face; ‘70s porno soundtrack exemplified. And you can’t help but smile at the lyrics: “the more you talk, the less I listen.” Raucous rock ‘n roll follows with “It’s A Fucking Disaster”. Rounding out the EP is a rough and tumble number named “Fist Fuck”, featuring a guest guitar solo courtesy of Brian Baker from Minor Threat and Bad Religion. Josh Todd, Keith Nelson, and co. put their proverbial stamp on punk rock. Detractors find it far too easy to dismiss Fuck as a novelty release; but for those who love Buckcherry, Fuck is an essential addition to their catalog and will be reveled in the same light as any of the band’s full-length releases. Collectors take note as US locations of Best Buy are offering an exclusive version, complete with a cover of Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin”.
