DISBELIEF - Spreading The Rage

Pop culture's this borderless beast, a phenomenon that has the ability to overtake even the most self-righteously underground. While listening to Disbelief, I can't, err, believe how the above-mentioned process finds itself completely and utterly in practice: these Germans are a metal band to be sure, but to say that mid-era The Cure is an influence on the group's sound is a supreme understatement. Though lyrics are growled and mossy distortion is everywhere, Spreading The Rage's 13 tunes all come off as 'Fascination Street''s distant cousin, or 'The Figurehead''s half-brother. This isn't a bad thing in the least, and makes for an engaging listen in an Eyes Of Fire ambushed by Mastodon kind of way. Still though, I sit back and marvel... Robert Smith's got disciples in the most perplexing of places.
